Love & Technology

With Valentine’s Day over, my thoughts are turned towards how technology played a major part in bringing me and my husband together.

My husband lived abroad and after we were introduced by friends, Whatsapp and Skype enabled us to keep in touch. We tried to ensure that we saw each other every 6-8 weeks and after about a year and a half, he proposed and I said “yes”. We have now been married for about 7 years but we initially lived apart for a year during which I found that Facetime and iMessage were the two most important pieces of technology/software to me as with these, I had access to him at all times of the day. Having disregarded the iPhone for years, I suddenly found that it and the iPad  were my major lifelines.

I am so thankful to the smart people that developed these technologies as without them, I can’t help but wonder if my Prince Charming and I would ever have been able to maintain a long distance relationship resulting in marriage.

I remain amazed at the miracle of love made possible by the availability of instant messaging and video calling. I have learnt to value the little things in my life as they have sometimes led to bigger and better things!
